Jaywick Set for Full Evacuation as Flood Warning Hits Essex
Jaywick residents, take note – major flood risk means you must evacuate! Essex Police have announced a full evacuation of Jaywick starting at 7am on Friday, January 13, due to expected severe flooding. The warning follows heavy rain and strong winds forecasted to peak around lunchtime.
Urgent Evacuation Underway
From 4pm Thursday, officers will visit Jaywick homes to alert residents of the evacuation order. A relief centre is set up at the Tendring Education Centre, Clacton (CO16 8BE), ready to shelter evacuees and their pets from 4pm Thursday onwards. However, pets needing specialist care cannot be accommodated.
Chief Inspector Russ Cole said: “Based on the Environment Agency and Met Office’s advice, we’ve decided to evacuate Jaywick homes to keep everyone safe. Officers will be visiting residences from 4pm today to ensure residents are aware. Self-evacuation can also begin from 4pm, either to the rest centre or a friend’s home outside Jaywick.”
