Retired Accountant Peter Rolington Honoured at Buckingham Palace Coronation Party
From Volunteer to Royal Recognition
Peter Rolington, a retired accountant and dedicated volunteer, was invited to a prestigious garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 3 May 2023. This special event celebrated the official Coronation, recognising Peter’s two decades of tireless service with Crimestoppers and Neighbourhood Watch.
Nomination Sparks Nationwide Praise
Peter’s nomination came after the Royal Voluntary Service called for entries across the UK to spotlight standout volunteers. Known as a community champion, he founded Kent’s e-Watch newsletter, which reaches nearly two-thirds of the county’s population twice a week with vital police appeals and news.
He also masterminded the Country Eye app, created alongside Kent Police to streamline reporting rural crimes — a true leap forward for local safety.
Sharing History & Serving the Community
More than just crime prevention, Peter is passionate about history. He routinely leads battlefield tours for police cadets aged 13 to 18, sharing expert insights into the World Wars – blending education with community spirit.
“It is an honour to be nominated as a Coronation Champion,”
Peter said. “I don’t do any of it for recognition but because I believe giving back is the right thing to do. I’m thrilled to support officers and help keep people safe, even without prior policing experience.”
The Coronation Champions Award
Backed by Her Majesty The Queen Consort – President of the Royal Voluntary Service and a fierce advocate for volunteering – the Coronation Champions Awards celebrate exceptional volunteers at this historic moment.
Five hundred champions from across the UK amazed judges with their impact, inspiring stories, and dedication.
Catherine Johnstone CBE, Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service, commented:
“The response to the Community Champions Awards was staggering. Our judges faced a tough choice selecting just 500 from thousands of inspirational people who all deserve huge recognition.”
“Each Coronation Champion has gone above and beyond, and we’re thrilled to honour and thank them during this exciting time in history.”
