Nadine Dorries Launches New Talk Show Amid Advisory Committee Row
Nadine’s New Show Ignites Rules Controversy
Ex-minister Nadine Dorries is set to host a fresh talk show, Friday Night With Nadine, kicking off on February 3. But she’s landed in hot water for skipping the proper green light from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba).
Lord Pickles, Acoba’s chair, revealed Nadine only informed him of her TV plans after the fact. “Failing to seek and await advice” is a clear rule breach, he said. However, he decided no further action is needed due to the “transparent nature” of the role.
Outdated Rules Under Fire
Lord Pickles didn’t hold back, calling this incident “a further illustration of how out of date the government’s rules are.” He reminded Nadine she should have sought approval before taking on any new jobs for two years after leaving ministerial duties.
“Had you approached Acoba in good time before agreeing to the 26-week contract… we would have been able to advise you appropriately in advance,” Lord Pickles told Ms Dorries.
Show’s Star Guest and Rival TV Scoop
The hour-long weekly show’s first episode promises a bang – an exclusive sit-down with Boris Johnson. Meanwhile, another MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg, has just been unveiled as a presenter on competitor channel GB News, turning political TV into a proper battleground.
The Cabinet Office is expected to respond soon to Lord Pickles’ letter, keeping a close eye on the unfolding drama.
