Grandma Left Fighting for Life After Gang Opens Fire on Her Home
Sally Cummins, 61, is in critical condition after three gunmen sprayed her Coleraine home with bullets in a terrifying attack last October.
Not the Intended Target? Police Probe Motive
Police believe Sally wasn’t the real target. The gunmen, suspected members of the North Antrim UDA, struck on Bushmills Road, firing over ten shots and smashing windows indiscriminately.
Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell revealed two types of weapons were used—a shotgun and a handgun—one of which has ties to other unsolved attacks in the area.
Dark Links to Death and Drugs Under Investigation
Officers are exploring a connection between the shooting and a sudden death in the same property just a month prior. A drugs link is also being examined as part of the inquiry.
Reward on Offer for Information Leading to Arrests
“The 61-year-old is now making good progress but remains in hospital,” said DCI Caldwell.
“I am still treating this incident as attempted murder. We hope a substantial Crimestoppers reward will encourage people to come forward with vital information.
“The reward also extends to anyone who can help recover the weapons.”
Inside the Attack: Elderly Woman Shot While Sleeping
Sally, a grandmother with health issues, was resting in a chair downstairs when one of the bullets hit her in the head.
“These reckless thugs don’t care who gets hurt — it’s all about their egos, power, and money,” said DCI Caldwell. “They fired over 10 shots, shattering windows, showing complete disregard for a vulnerable woman inside.”
Police continue to scour CCTV footage and follow every lead to bring those responsible to justice.
