Police are appealing for witnesses after a 50-year-old man was left with serious injuries following a violent group assault in Peckham Rye Park.
The incident took place at around 9.15pm on Friday, 22 August, when a group of 8–10 youths wearing balaclavas targeted the victim as he walked home with a friend.
According to accounts shared by relatives, the man suffered four fractured ribs, a partially collapsed lung, a broken nose and eye injuries after being held down, punched, and kicked repeatedly.
The attackers — believed to be in their late teens or early 20s — filmed the assault while making threats of stabbing. They fled about ten minutes later, heading towards an exit onto Colyton Road, near Honor Oak Park.
Victim not robbed
Family members stressed that this was not a mugging, as the attackers did not take the victim’s phone or belongings. The assault appeared to be random and unprovoked.
Appeal for information
Police are investigating under crime reference 01/7891662/25. Officers are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage from the area at the time to come forward.
Witnesses reported the suspects wore mostly black clothing, appeared slim, and were around 6ft tall on average.
Residents have also been asked to share any information about videos of the incident that may be circulating on social media.
