Tragic Death as Car Sinks in Flood Water in Walsall
A man has died after his car was swallowed by floodwater in Walsall’s Rushall area in the early hours of Monday morning.
Rescue Teams Battle Flood to Save Victim
The incident unfolded on Lichfield Road at around 2.20am. Emergency services scrambled two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.
According to a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, “On arrival, ambulance staff found a flooded road with two vehicles in the water.” Firefighters entered the water and discovered an elderly man trapped inside one of the cars.
The man was pulled from the vehicle and handed over to ambulance crews at the water’s edge. Despite advanced life support efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Walsall Manor Hospital.
Second Person Found Safe, Second Vehicle Possibly Abandoned
Four HART paramedics teamed up with the West Midlands Fire Service Technical Rescue staff in the risky water rescue operation. They found a second person in the water who was unharmed – and officials believe this person was not connected to either vehicle.
The second car appeared to have been in the floodwater for some time before the rescue.
