Heroic Lidl Staff and PCSO Rescue Dementia-Stricken Pensioner After Wallet Theft

Pensioner’s Wallet Snatched in Crook Wetherspoons

A vulnerable pensioner with dementia faced distress after his wallet was stolen during lunch at Crook Wetherspoons. The man, out with his carer, only realised his wallet was missing when he headed to Lidl for shopping.

Initially thought lost, CCTV footage later showed a brazen woman pretending to read a menu before swiping the wallet from the man’s scooter. The wallet held £100, a bank card, and the man’s bus pass – essentials he desperately needed.

Swift Police Action Snaps Up Suspect

Police launched a social media appeal to catch the thief. Their quick moves paid off. A 65-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud and remains in custody as investigations continue.

Community Steps Up Big Time

Enter PCSO Katie Gunby, who sprang into action on hearing about the pensioner’s plight. She snapped a photo of his shopping list and went straight to Lidl’s manager, who kindly offered to cover the cost of his groceries.

The heartwarming gesture brought huge relief to the elderly man, with police hailing the incredible community spirit in Crook.

Police spokesperson: “We are yet again bowled over by the kindness and generosity of the Crook community. The support shown to this vulnerable gentleman is truly heartwarming. Special thanks to PCSO Katie Gunby and the team at Lidl for making a difference in his day.”

Public Praise Floods In

Social media exploded with praise for local heroes. One user said: “Absolutely lovely to see the community coming together to help. Well done to PCSO Katie Gunby and Lidl!”
