Man Dies in Horror Crash with Police Car on South Coast Road
A 27-year-old man has died after a serious collision with a marked police vehicle late on Saturday night.
The crash happened just after 11.10pm near the junction of Dorothy Avenue on the A259 South Coast Road.
Emergency Services Respond
Paramedics and emergency responders rushed to the scene after the man sustained severe injuries in the smash. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Probe Underway
Because a police vehicle was involved, the case has been handed over to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for a full, independent investigation.
Road Closures and Public Reaction
- A stretch of the A259 was closed both ways during the investigation but has now reopened.
- However, the junction with Bramber Avenue remains shut.
Chief Superintendent Jo Banks said: “This is a tragic incident and we are fully supporting the IOPC investigation. We want to thank drivers and residents for their patience while the A259 South Coast Road was closed.”
