New Look Cuts 60 Stores but South Coast Locations Saved
New Look is slashing 60 stores from its UK portfolio amid tough trading and a grim retail climate. But South Coast shoppers can breathe easy—all local branches have been spared, pending creditor approval of the financial rescue plan.
Sixty Stores Face the Chop
The fashion giant revealed plans to close 60 out of its 593 UK stores, including its flagship Oxford Street outlet in London. Another six stores sub-let to third parties also face closure. Alongside closures, New Look aims to slash rental costs and renegotiate leases for 393 other stores to stay afloat.
This financial lifeline awaits creditor sign-off on 21st March 2018. Until then, all UK stores remain open and online sales carry on as normal.
South Coast Stores Safe for Now
Locals around the South Coast can rest easy. Unlike many cities from Aberdeen to Wigan, none of the regional stores in this area are on the closure list. Staff and shoppers alike can carry on without disruption—provided creditors give the green light.
Stores Marked for Closure Include:
- Aberdeen – Bon Accord
- Bolton Mens
- Cardiff – Queen Arcade
- Dundee – Wellgate
- Glasgow – Buchanan Street Mens
- Hull – Whitefriargate
- Leeds – The Core Shopping Centre
- London – Oxford Circus, Marble Arch, Moorgate/London Wall
- Reading – Broad Street and Oracle Mens
- Stockport – Merseyway
- Torquay – Union Street
- Wigan Mens
- …and many more across the UK
New Look’s shake-up shows the harsh reality facing British high streets. But for now, South Coast shoppers and staff can breathe a sigh of relief.
