Wild Police Ram in Downton: Pickup Truck Smashes Cop Car in Theft Frenzy
Wiltshire Police are hunting witnesses after a brazen pickup truck rammed a police car in Downton just after midnight on Friday, April 18.
Early Hours Chaos on Downton High Street
At 12.35am, officers spotted a bright yellow recovery-style pickup truck acting suspiciously. The vehicle, carrying two men, was believed to be linked to an attempted vehicle theft.
When cops moved in, the driver slammed the pickup in reverse at speed straight into the police car, wrecking it. The truck then sped off east toward Redlynch.
The Distinctive Danger Machine
Police describe the runaway pickup as:
- Bright yellow body
- Two orange flashing lights
- Two rear cabin windows
- Yellow and red reflective stripes on the rear
- Large T-shaped tow bar
Key Witness Appeal: Did You See the Black Car?
Investigators are desperate to find the driver of a black car who passed the yellow truck at 12.33am, moments before the smash. They believe this motorist could hold vital clues or footage that helps catch the suspects.
“This was a dangerous and deliberate act that could have resulted in serious injury to our officers. We’re urging anyone with information, particularly the driver of the black vehicle, to contact us immediately,” said a Wiltshire Police spokesperson.
Police are also asking for any doorbell cams, dashcams, or CCTV from Downton between 12.20am and 1am on Friday to help track down the culprits.
