Man Dies in Horror Smash with Police Car on A259
A 27-year-old man has tragically died after a high-speed collision with a marked police car on the A259 South Coast Road just past 11.10pm on Saturday, April 30. The crash happened near the junction with Dorothy Avenue.
Paramedics’ Race Ends in Tragedy
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Because a police vehicle was involved, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a full investigation into the fatal crash.
Road Closures Spark Rush-Hour Chaos
- The A259 was shut in both directions while police and investigators combed the scene.
- The road has now reopened but remains closed at the Bramber Avenue junction, causing ongoing traffic chaos for commuters.
Chief Superintendent Jo Banks said: “This is a tragic incident and we are fully supporting the IOPC investigation. We want to thank drivers and residents for their patience while the A259 South Coast Road was closed.”
