M27 Chaos as Man Clings to Bridge Sparks 4-Hour Tailbacks
Police and the Highways Agency are battling to clear huge traffic jams after a man was spotted clinging to a bridge above the M27 between junctions 8 and 9.
M27 Shut Both Ways for Safety
Authorities shut the motorway in both directions, causing miles of gridlock that left drivers stranded for around four hours. Hampshire Constabulary said: “As a measure to protect the safety of the public, we were forced to close the M27 in both directions as always public safety is our utmost priority.”
Man Safely Talked Down and Receiving Help
Emergency services worked quickly to talk the man down from the dangerous position on the wrong side of the bridge barriers. They confirmed: “The man who was seen clinging to the bridge has now been talked to safety and is with emergency services seeking medical intervention.”
Police thanked motorists for their patience as they continue to ease congestion and fully reopen the M27.
