Hoax Security Alert Sparks Chaos at Chester Station
Major Disruption Hits Chester Transport Hub
Cheshire Police are hunting a culprit behind a hoax security alert that threw Chester railway station and nearby areas into chaos last Friday evening.
At 5:09 pm on November 22, officers were called after reports of suspicious activity involving two buses – one near Chester railway station, the other close to the city’s bus interchange.
Police swiftly sealed off the area, shutting several roads and halting train services to Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. Bus services from the interchange ground to a halt too.
Panic and Confusion on the Streets
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as passengers and pedestrians scrambled amid the lockdown.
“There was quite a lot of panic when the area was cordoned off,” a witness told Cheshire Live.
Bomb Squad Called In – All Clear After Investigation
Specialist officers, including the bomb squad, were deployed and launched a thorough investigation.
By around 7 pm, police confirmed the area was safe and reopened the train lines.
Cheshire Police said: “Following careful checks, the area was deemed safe. The report of suspicious activity on two buses was investigated as a precaution.”
Police Appeal as Hoax Investigation Continues
Authorities have now confirmed the alert was a deliberate hoax causing serious disruption during peak travel.
Cheshire Police are appealing for information to find the person responsible. They warn hoaxes waste precious emergency resources and put public safety at risk.
