Police and emergency crews worked through the night after a deadly smash on the M27 near Fareham. The westbound carriage of the busy motorway ground to a halt following a collision involving a car and a motorbike.

Chaos Before the Crash

Just moments before the crash, dozens of panicked drivers called 999, warning police about large chunks of wood scattered across the unlit stretch between Junction 9 and Junction 8. Many had to swerve wildly to avoid the debris in what’s known as a dangerous blackspot.

Multi-Vehicle Collision Closes M27 for Hours

At least four vehicles took part in the smash, including a motorcycle and a Hyundai. The motorway was shut down for nearly eight hours overnight as specialist officers scoured the scene. They carried out detailed tests, took precise measurements, and scanned the wreckage to piece together what went wrong.

Investigation Wrapped—Appeal for Witnesses

Police wrapped up on-scene investigations just after 5.10am on Tuesday and handed control back to Highways England to get the traffic moving again. Authorities are expected to release a statement and launch an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
