Portsmouth's World Naked Bike Ride Postponed to July Over Bad Weather
The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) in Portsmouth, set for this Saturday, has been pushed back to Sunday 3rd July. Organiser Simon Terry pulled the plug due to grim weather forecasts this weekend.
“We can make a proper day of it in July,” Simon said. “It’s not guaranteed, but it’s more likely to be warmer and dry then.”
New Route After Southsea Complaints
This year’s ride will kick off from Alexandra Park, skipping its usual spot following grumbles from Southsea locals. Cyclists will pedal through North End, Fratton, and on to Southsea. The route continues along the seafront, past Old Portsmouth and Gunwharf Quays before heading back.
“We decided to do the right thing and move to a different area,” Simon explained.
Why They Ride Naked
The annual WNBR is a bold protest against oil dependence and to highlight cyclist safety on UK roads. Over 40 UK locations join worldwide events.
While nudity is encouraged, Simon stressed everyone’s welcome. “You can take part fully clothed if you prefer. It’s ‘Bare as you dare.’”
