Flybe Set to Take Off Again Early Next Year
Exeter-based airline Flybe looks poised for a comeback after striking a deal with hedge fund firm Cyrus Capital. Once employing 2,000 staff and flying over nine million passengers annually, Flybe sadly went into administration in March, grounding all flights from Exeter and Newquay airports.
Deal Could Bring Flybe Back in 2021
On Monday, officials announced that, subject to confidential conditions, Flybe is expected to resume operations under its original brand early next year. Administrators are working closely with Thyme Opco—the Cyrus Capital-associated company behind the takeover—Flybe’s management, and the UK Civil Aviation Authority to prepare for the airline’s relaunch.
Flybe’s Return to Boost UK Regional Travel and Jobs
A spokesperson for Thyme Opco said: “We are extremely excited about the opportunity to relaunch Flybe. The airline is not only a well-known UK brand but was the largest regional air carrier in the EU. Though we will start smaller, we plan to create valuable airline jobs, restore crucial regional connectivity, and support the recovery of a vital part of the country’s economy.”
