Renault Recall Alert! Five popular Renault models are being recalled over a dodgy electronic parking brake that could cause cars to roll away unexpectedly. This serious safety flaw raises the risk of accidents.
Which Renaults Are Affected?
The recall covers the Renault Austral, Captur, Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, and Rafale made between April 2024 and January 2025. Although this is a global issue, only around 100 Renaults in the UK are impacted, along with six Dacia Dusters.
What’s Wrong With the Parking Brake?
The fault lies with a wonky position sensor inside the parking brake actuator. This sensor can prevent the parking brake from fully engaging when the engine is off, or when the driver unbuckles their seatbelt or opens the door. Thankfully, the Assisted Parking Brake system still works to keep the car stationary.
Renault’s Response and What Drivers Should Do
Renault UK hasn’t released a detailed statement yet but is contacting affected owners with recall codes. No urgent action is needed right now, but if you’re worried, get in touch with your dealer for advice and fixes.
Renault’s Safety Record Still Solid
Despite this hiccup, Renault enjoys a strong safety reputation, with most models scoring five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests. The brand’s booming electric and hybrid range shows no signs of slowing down.
