Blazing Inferno Hits Great Blakenham Recycling Plant

A fierce fire is raging at the recycling plant on Gipping Lane in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich. Dozens of firefighters have scrambled to tackle the towering blaze.

Smoke Chokes Village, Residents Warned

Andy Smith, Suffolk Fire and Rescue’s Area Manager, took to Twitter just after 5 a.m. to update the public. He said the fire is producing thick plumes of smoke and urged locals to keep windows and doors shut for their safety.

“@SuffolkFire is on the scene of a large recycling plant fire on Gipping Lane in Great Blakenham. Due to the high level of smoke, please keep your windows and doors closed.”

Not the First Blaze This Month

This isn’t the first fiery drama at a Great Blakenham recycling yard. The BBC reports that last month, firefighters battled for over six hours to extinguish a massive fire at the Sackers site, where 300 tonnes of scrap metal and car shells went up in flames.
