Van Blaze and Crash Cause Chaos on King George VI Avenue, Hove
This afternoon just after 3pm, emergency crews scrambled to a crash and vehicle fire on King George VI Avenue, near Goldstone Crescent in Hove. A van and an HGV collided, with the van bursting into flames, sparking a major incident.
Road Shut, Traffic Hell Ensues
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) and Sussex Police quickly sealed off the road between Nevill Road junction and Devil’s Dyke interchange roundabout. The closure was needed to clear the wrecks and make the scene safe.
Chaos followed with snarled traffic, especially on the A27, as frustrated drivers hunted for alternative routes through jam-packed surrounding streets.
Firefighters Tackle Blaze with Full Force
Fire crews fought the fire using hose reel jets, breathing apparatus, and thermal imaging cameras. They also deployed an environmental pack to control a diesel spill caused by the collision.
“We were called at 3:06pm about a collision and vehicle fire involving a van and an HGV on Goldstone Crescent,” said an ESFRS spokesperson. “Police and ambulance teams attended promptly. We urge the public to avoid the area and find alternative routes while congestion continues.”
Road Reopens After Emergency Response
The road has now reopened, but the incident left a lasting impact on rush hour traffic and caused delays across East Sussex.
