A Swindon transport company boss who died after a car left the road and collided with a tree near Minety has been named locally as Robert Boughey. The 41-year-old father, who owned haulage company Boughey Ltd, died following the collision on the B4040 shortly after 7pm on Friday, August 7. Mr Boughey was travelling in an Audi RS 3 when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. A second man, aged in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for urgent treatment after receiving care from Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance medics. Tributes have since poured in from friends and businesses within the transport industry, remembering Mr Boughey as a popular and well-respected figure. Floral tributes have also been left at the scene of the fatal collision.
‘One of life’s true gentlemen’
E.W. Gardner & Grandson Ltd described Mr Boughey as a “dear friend” and “one of life’s true gentlemen”, remembering him as someone always happy and ready to make people laugh. The company also wished the second man involved in the collision a full and speedy recovery and sent its thoughts to both families. Whites Transport Services Ltd said the news of Mr Boughey’s death had been “absolutely devastating”. In a tribute, the company said he had previously carried out casual work for the business before going on to establish his own successful haulage operation. It described him as a “genuinely nice bloke” who was “hilariously funny” and always great company. The tribute added: “Absolutely tragic and far too soon. “Rest in peace, Rob. You’ll be sadly missed. My deepest condolences to all your family and close friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
‘Your shift is over, driver’
Auto-Stable Motor Movers Ltd also paid tribute, saying its boss had first met Mr Boughey around three years ago and the pair had remained good friends. The company said his life had been cut short in a tragic accident and offered condolences to his wife, children and wider family. Its tribute ended with the poignant words: “Your shift is over driver.” The circumstances surrounding the collision remain subject to investigation.
