Kent Council Sounds the Alarm on Lifeline Scam Calls

Kent County Council’s Assistive Technology Team has issued a stark warning after reports of scammers posing as council staff or Lifeline service providers started targeting vulnerable residents across Kent.

Scammers Demand Bank Details Posing as Lifeline Officials

Fraudsters are cold-calling Lifeline users, claiming they need bank details to carry out a “digital upgrade” on their equipment. They threaten that failure to comply will see the service cut off.

⚠️ Warning: This is a scam! Do NOT give out your details.

The Assistive Technology Team stresses they will never ring customers asking for payment info or bank details for existing services.

How to Protect Yourself From These Scam Calls

  1. Hang up immediately if you’re suspicious about the call.
  2. Report the scam to Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133.
  3. Contact your bank right away if you have already shared any financial information.

These scams prey on Kent’s most vulnerable residents. Don’t let crooks grab your cash by falling for fake council calls.

Stay alert, spread the word, and report anything suspicious to keep your community safe.
