Norfolk Firms Land £16M Windfarm Vessel Deal

Two Norfolk marine firms are set to make waves in the green energy race. NR Marine Services from Caister and Great Yarmouth’s OEG have bagged multi-million-pound contracts with ScottishPower Renewables. Their mission? To power the massive East Anglia THREE offshore windfarm, launching in 2026.

The vessels will sail out of Lowestoft, boosting East Anglia’s standing as a clean energy hotspot.

Cutting-Edge, UK-Built Fleet Joins the Charge

NR Marine is supplying two state-of-the-art crew transfer vessels: the NR Rebellion and NR Hunter. The highlight, the 25-metre NR Rebellion, is a hybrid Typhoon Class vessel built on the Isle of Wight by Diverse Marine. It’s eco-friendly, slashing emissions and fuel use, can carry 24 crew, and hit speeds up to 26 knots with a 1,000 nautical mile range.

This will be the first vessel of its kind to serve Iberdrola’s worldwide projects.

OEG adds muscle with the support vessel Tess. Designed for long sea missions, Tess will handle guard and safety duties, ensuring smooth construction at the windfarm site.

Local Industry Scores Major Win

Ross Ovens, Offshore Managing Director at ScottishPower Renewables, said: “It’s fantastic to have NR Marine Services and OEG on board – supporting East Anglia THREE right on their doorstep, bringing investment and opportunity to the region, and contributing to a cleaner and greener future. These charter agreements show how the East of England can serve not just UK offshore wind projects, but those across the globe.”

Owen Nutt, Director of NR Marine Services, added: “This is the biggest charter we’ve ever signed, and a real show of confidence in what this region can offer the offshore wind industry. We’ve doubled our fleet and headcount over the past year – including more local recruitment – thanks to support from partners like ScottishPower.”

George Moore, Business Development Director at OEG, said: “This contract further strengthens our roots in the East of England and our commitment to building a robust local supply chain. We now look forward to delivering a safe and efficient project.”

Powering 1.3 Million Homes and Counting

When up and running, East Anglia THREE will be ScottishPower Renewables’ biggest offshore windfarm, delivering 1.4GW of clean power. That’s enough electricity for 1.3 million UK homes and ranks it as the world’s second-largest offshore windfarm.

The project highlights the UK’s offshore wind muscle and proves local firms can drive the green energy revolution.

Stay tuned for more updates on East Anglia THREE’s progress in the coming months.
