Massive Upgrades Proposed for Lydd Airport in Kent
In a bold move, London Ashford Airport Ltd, owned by Saudi billionaire Sheikh Fahad al-Athel, has thrown in a planning application to Kent County Council for a major revamp of Lydd Airport.
Brand New Terminal and Runway Extension
The plan calls for tearing down the current terminal to build a sleek, modern facility. Even bigger, the runway would be doubled in length from 1,505 metres to a whopping 3,000 metres. This gargantuan upgrade means jumbo jets like the Airbus A380 could soon touch down in Kent.
Sheikh Fahad’s Big Vision for the Coast
Sheikh Fahad al-Athel, worth an estimated $2.2 billion and owner of a Turkish yacht-building firm, is also eyeing a new shipyard and marina near Littlestone on the Kent coast.
Boost to Local Economy and Connectivity
The overhaul aims to attract weekly flights from major hubs, potentially increasing air traffic and creating a welcome economic boost for the region. Locals hope the development will put Kent on the map for global travellers.
