Major London Rail Chaos as Signalling Glitch Sparks Hours of Delays
Commuters were left stranded tonight after a signalling failure at Petts Wood station threw southeast London rail services into chaos. The disruption, which kicked off around 6pm on September 16, triggered delays lasting up to three hours on key routes between Petts Wood and London Victoria.
Signal Failure Sends Trains Into Turmoil
Trains running between Sevenoaks, Orpington, and London were hit hardest, with some unable to even stop at Petts Wood. This caused widespread knock-on delays right across the network, frustrating countless passengers trying to get home.
National Rail stepped in to confirm that the signal lines reopened at about 6:45pm. However, the misery wasn’t over yet, as authorities warned of lingering disruption with delays expected until 9pm.
Some Delays May Linger Despite Recovery
Even as services began to bounce back, some trains between Sevenoaks, Orpington, and London continued to face delays of up to five minutes. The network is still not back to full speed.
National Rail Urges Caution and Alternative Routes
Commuters have been urged to check service updates before travelling and to consider alternative routes where possible. National Rail wants to minimise the hassle and keep London’s evening rush moving.
