Blaze Breaks Out on 8th Floor of Portsmouth Block
Firefighters raced to Sarah Robinson House on Queen Street this afternoon after a fire erupted on the 8th floor of a flat. Six crews from Cosham, Southsea, and Havant quickly responded alongside an aerial ladder platform to tackle the flames.
Firefighters Battle Flames Inside Flat
The ambulance-style Hampshire 1 Rescue team was called at 1.43pm. Fire crews donned breathing apparatus and attacked the blaze using two hose reels inside the property. Additional teams moved residents from the affected floor to safety.
Extra Crews Join Effort as Smoke Seen from Windows
Seeing smoke pouring from a window, two more pump appliances from Portchester and Fareham were dispatched to support the operation. Firefighters remain on scene working to control the situation.
Bus Services Disrupted as Traffic Diversions Set
The building fire has forced closure of Queen Street. Local Stagecoach bus services 20, 21, 23, and 700, along with the Hoverbus, are rerouted. A Stagecoach spokesman confirmed that diversions are in place and updates will follow.
