Outage tracker DownDetector recorded tens of thousands of complaints around 11:40am GMT. The disruption hit Europe hardest but also spread to Australia, the US east coast, Africa, South America, and Asia.
YouTube Suffers Biggest Blow
YouTube alone racked up over 50,000 reports by 11:54am, with nearly half of these complaints about website access and 43% related to issues playing videos. Google’s main search page amassed 19,000 complaints, while Gmail faced 23,000 issues before midday.
Login Problems Behind Most Complaints
According to DownDetector, a staggering 81% of Gmail problems and 91% of Google homepage issues revolved around users failing to log in.
With Google’s apps used by billions worldwide, this rare outage caused widespread frustration this morning.
