Specialist Drones Join Desperate Hunt for Missing Runner Jenny Hall

It’s day six of the frantic search for 23-year-old Jenny Hall, who vanished without a trace near remote Durham moorland. Authorities have now brought in high-tech drones to scour the rugged landscape in a bid to crack the mystery.

Jenny Vanished After Leaving Home

Jenny, a keen long-distance runner from Tow Law, was last seen leaving her home just after 3pm on Tuesday, February 18. Her red Ford Focus was abandoned the next day along the B6278 between Eggleston and Stanhope, sparking a massive search operation.

Believed to be exploring familiar trails between Eggleston and Hamsterley, Jenny disappeared somewhere in the wild moorland. So far, 60 mountain rescue volunteers, 10 sniffer dogs, and HM Coastguard air support have combed over 100 miles of forests, moors, and remote paths — but come up empty-handed.

High-Tech Search in Harsh Conditions

Durham Constabulary has now deployed specialist drones with advanced imaging tech to widen the hunt. Chief Inspector Dean Haythornthwaite said, “We have become increasingly concerned for Jenny since she was reported missing and are focusing our search on areas we know she likes to run through. We are determined to do everything we can to find her.”

Challenging weather and tough terrain have slowed progress. Digital teams have analysed Jenny’s phone, smartwatch, and running apps — but no solid leads yet.

What Jenny Was Wearing

  • White, around six feet tall
  • Long dark brown hair, possibly tied back in a ponytail
  • Blue John Deere hoodie
  • Dark jogging bottoms
  • Green jacket (may have been carrying)

Public Urged to Stay Away From Search

Despite community backing, police have warned the public not to join search parties. A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said, “We want to thank the public for their support, but uncoordinated efforts could disrupt the ongoing work and distract our expert sniffer dogs.”

Teesdale and Weardale Mountain Rescue teams echoed this, urging people to leave the ground to experts to keep the search orderly and effective.

Local MPs and Community Rally Support

Local MP Sam Rushworth expressed deep concern, saying, “This is an incredibly worrying situation that no family should endure. Thanks to the police, mountain rescue teams, and everyone helping with the search — my thoughts are with Jenny and her loved ones. It’s vital the search continues at full pace until Jenny is found.”
