£300 Cost of Living Payment Hits 840,000 UK Families Today

Hundreds of thousands of UK families relying on tax credits only are receiving a £300 boost from today to tackle soaring living costs. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is rolling out payments from 10 to 19 November 2023 to around 840,000 eligible households across the country.

Millions More Get £300 Cash from DWP

Meanwhile, over 7 million other UK households on means-tested benefits like Universal Credit and Pension Credit are also pocketing £300 directly from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) between 31 October and 19 November 2023.

This is the second instalment of three payments in 2023-24. Eligible claimants can receive up to £900 in total to ease financial pressure.

Officials Promise Simple, Automatic Payments

“I know Christmas can be a difficult time, which is why this £300 payment will come as a welcome boost for hundreds of thousands of families. But the best help we can give is halving inflation this year.” – John Glen, Chief Secretary to the Treasury

“The £300 Cost of Living Payment will deliver further financial support to eligible tax credits customers across the UK. Another payment will be made by spring 2024 to those entitled to receive it.” – Angela MacDonald, HMRC Deputy Chief Executive

HMRC customers don’t need to lift a finger – payments appear automatically. Look for ‘HMRC COLS’ on bank statements. DWP recipients will see their National Insurance number followed by ‘DWP COL’.

What To Do If You’ve Not Received Your Cash

If you qualify but haven’t seen the payment by 20 November, wait for banks to process it before contacting HMRC. Note: having received previous Cost of Living Payments doesn’t guarantee future ones. Eligibility rules apply for each instalment. Full details can be found on GOV.UK.
