Manchester Airport Taxi Blitz Nets Dozens of Drivers
Greater Manchester Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit (GMP CVU), teamed up with WV Protect, launched a no-nonsense taxi crackdown at Manchester Airport yesterday. Over 30 taxis were inspected, unearthing multiple rule-breakers.
Four Hit with Compliance Notices, One Taxi Licence Axed
Inspectors didn’t mess about. Four drivers were slapped with compliance notices for breaching regulations. Even more serious, one driver had their taxi licence suspended on the spot after officers found major concerns. No wheelers and dealers allowed here.
Passengers’ Safety Front and Centre
“These operations are vital to ensure that passengers using taxi services at Manchester Airport are safe and that all vehicles and drivers are operating to the required legal standards,”
said a GMP CVU spokesperson.
WV Protect, who specialise in passenger safety and vehicle compliance, backed the crackdown. Checks included roadworthiness tests, license verifications, and ensuring drivers follow local taxi laws.
More Taxi Spot Checks to Come
Officials insist these swoops are key to restoring public trust in licensed cabs and stamping out dodgy or unsafe taxis. The suspended licence and compliance hits are now in the hands of licensing authorities for follow-up.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed these spot checks are just the start. More taxi crackdowns will roll out soon as part of a crackdown to keep passengers safe and standards sky-high.
