Tragic End to Vacation: Devoted Couple Found Dead in Welsh Falls
A devoted couple from Kent, Rachael and Helen Patching, has been found dead after going missing during a holiday in Wales. The pair vanished on January 4 while visiting the treacherous Ystradfellte Falls in Powys.
Massive Search Launched After Sightings in Water
Locals raised the alarm after spotting two people in the dangerous waters, triggering a huge search effort. The rescue operation involved fire crews, mountain rescue teams, and national air support, battling fast-flowing rivers and bad weather conditions.
Tragically, the first body was recovered the following day, with the second found on Sunday. Police confirmed the victims were Rachael, 33, and Helen, 52.
Families Pay Heartbreaking Tribute
“We are devastated to have suffered such an immeasurable loss,” the families said in a joint statement. “Rachael and Helen were a devoted, selfless, and loving couple who had a hugely positive impact on everyone they met.”
“Their love for animals and commitment to caring for them made them a true credit to society. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of the emergency teams during this nightmare.
“There are no words to express how highly they were regarded by family, friends, and colleagues. We now ask for privacy to grieve.”
Search Hampered by Dangerous Conditions
Emergency officials revealed the search was made even tougher by the harsh weather and the fast-flowing river. Despite these challenges, rescue teams worked around the clock to find the missing couple.
