Blaze Breaks Out at Belgravia Restaurant – 60 Firefighters Rush In
Late-Night Inferno on Pont Street
Chaos hit Pont Street in Belgravia last night as a fire tore through a popular restaurant. At around 10.40pm, flames and thick smoke were spotted near the building’s roof, sparking a massive emergency response. The London Fire Brigade scrambled eight fire engines and 60 firefighters to the scene.
Diners and Staff Escape as Fire Destroys Basement and Extraction System
Seven customers and six staff had already fled before the brigade arrived. Firefighters had to rescue a man and woman trapped on the third floor using fire escape hoods, specially designed to shield from deadly gases like carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide for up to 15 minutes.
The fire damaged part of the basement severely and completely destroyed the ducting extraction system from basement to roof.
Specialised Teams Join the Fray
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, supported by HART teams, were on site alongside London Fire Brigade’s drone and aerial ladder specialists.
Road closures were enforced while an investigation kicks off to uncover the fire’s cause.
Official Statement and Ongoing Investigation
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The fire was called in at 10.40pm and brought under control by 2.09am. Fire crews from stations including Chelsea, Kensington, Soho, Lambeth, Euston, and Fulham fought the blaze.”
They added, “Fire escape hoods provided critical protection during the rescue, filtering toxic smoke to aid breathing.”
The cause of the blaze remains unknown as authorities continue their inquiry.
