Thomas Lawton, 49, has been convicted of trying to rob a Royal Mail postman in Malmesbury last summer. The tense showdown happened on August 2, 2025, and Lawton was found guilty at Salisbury Crown Court on February 12.

Postman Ambushed During Delivery

The postman had just parked his van outside The Light on Bristol Street and was dropping off parcels when Lawton suddenly approached. The thug tried to force open the van door and, when challenged, demanded the postman’s phone and keys while threatening violence.

Fearing for his life, the postman fled with Lawton in hot pursuit. Luckily, the postie scrambled back to his van and escaped without a scratch before things got worse.

Community Left Shaken by the Attack

Police Constable Hannah East of Central CID said: “Lawton’s behaviour left his victim fearing serious harm. It’s lucky the postman escaped unharmed while just trying to do his job.”
