Blaze Erupts on East Ham Balcony in Early Morning Drama
Flames Rip Through Second Floor Balcony
Firefighters raced to a block of flats on Priory Road, East Ham, in the early hours today after a balcony caught fire. The blaze tore through the second-floor balcony of an eight-storey building, sparking panic among residents.
Woman and Two Children Escape Unharmed
Thankfully, a woman and two children managed to flee the scene before the fire brigade arrived. No injuries were reported, but the balcony suffered significant damage.
“The balcony was well alight when crews arrived on scene,” said Sub Officer Jayvin Patel.
Firefighters Battle Blaze From Outside
The brigade tackled the fire externally to stop it spreading into the flat. Their quick action contained the flames and protected the building.
Emergency services received nine calls reporting the fire. The brigade was alerted at 2:59 a.m., and the fire was fully extinguished by 4:20 a.m.
Massive Response from Four Fire Stations
Around 25 firefighters responded with four fire engines from Plaistow, East Ham, Stratford, and Poplar stations. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
