Vets Brace for Medicine Shortages Amid Covid Crisis
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is on high alert over veterinary medicine supplies during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Early Warning System in Action
The VMD has a proven, intelligence-driven system to spot supply chain issues fast. There’s also an emergency plan ready to keep vital medicines flowing without interruption.
They’re working hand-in-hand with pharmaceutical firms and distributors to nip problems in the bud. Manufacturers have safeguards to maintain production and supply, but any hiccup must be reported immediately.
Vets Urged to Keep Calm and Carry On
Vets and retailers are advised to buy as usual, keeping stock levels balanced. Panic buying could spell trouble for everyone.
“If you spot a supply problem, vets should first contact the Marketing Authorisation Holder. If that doesn’t solve it, your veterinary association can flag it to the VMD at [email protected],” said the VMD.
Pet Owners: Don’t Delay
- Talk to your vet about the timing of vaccinations.
- Order repeat prescriptions early for animals on long-term treatment.
Following these simple steps helps keep pets safe and the medicine cupboard well-stocked.
