M20 and Key Kent Roads Face Major Night Closures This December
Brace yourselves, Kent drivers! The M20 is set for a series of night and weekend closures starting 2 December. The coastbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 9 will shut every night from 8pm to 6am until Sunday 11 December. On that Sunday, the road will be closed all day and night, reopening at 6am Monday 12 December.
London-Bound M20 Shutdowns and Brock Contraflow Rollout
The London-bound M20 isn’t spared either. Between junctions 9 and 8, it closes from 9pm on Thursday 8 December to 6am on Friday 9, then again from 9pm Sunday 11 to 6am Monday 12 December. These closures finish resurfacing work and make way for Operation Brock, which kicks in when the road reopens on Monday 12 December with a new Brock contraflow system.
Note: Coastbound slip roads at M2 junction 5 remain closed for the time being.
Weekend A249 Drainage Works and A2 Resurfacing
Expect weekend disruption on the A249 north of the 1 roundabout while drainage improvements are underway. This week and next, key resurfacing also hits the A2 Hall Road junction:
- Sunday 4 December: London-bound A2 closed 8pm–4am
- Sunday 18 December: Coastbound A2 closed 10pm–6am
Coastbound closures come with a signed diversion via the A2260, Thames Way, A226, A227, and 1 Road. London-bound drivers take the same detour route in reverse.
Bean and Ebbsfleet Junctions Shut Overnight Next Week
The coastbound exit from the A2 at Bean junction closes overnight from Monday 5 to Friday 9 December. To exit, drivers should detour via Ebbsfleet junction and return on the London-bound A2.
The coastbound entry to Bean junction also shuts overnight Monday 5 December. Use Bean Lane and A296 Watling Street as alternative routes to join the A2.
Looking Ahead: A2070 Night Closures
Late next week, the A2070 at Hamstreet closes overnight (8pm to 6am) between Ashford Road and Johnson’s Corner on 12, 13, and 14 December. Diversions route via the A2070, A259, A261, A20, M20, then back to the A2070. Non-motorway traffic should stick to the A20.
Plan ahead and expect delays while these vital roadworks upgrade Kent’s transport network before the festive rush.
