Massive Fire Sparks Panic Near M25
A huge fire ripped through around six hectares of grass and shrubland over a 20-hectare area this afternoon. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
More than 20 emergency calls flooded in to the London Fire Brigade’s 999 Control Officers as smoke and ash billowed towards nearby homes and the busy M25 motorway between junctions 25 and 26.
Firefighters Battle Blaze for Hours
The blaze was reported at 3.12pm and crews battled fiercely until it was fully extinguished by 6.25pm. Firefighters from Holloway, Enfield, Chingford, Stratford, Ilford, and surrounding stations rushed to the scene to tackle the inferno.
Fire Brigade Issues Urgent Warning
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade urged locals to keep windows and doors closed while the fire was fought. They also warned:
“We’re asking people to be extra cautious this summer to help prevent fires on open land. Make sure all rubbish, especially glass, is disposed of correctly. Always put out cigarettes properly.”
“Please avoid barbecues in parks and public spaces during hot, dry weather to prevent more devastating fires.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation as firefighters continue efforts to keep the area safe.
