Trans Pride Brighton 2023: Storm Hits Biggest UK Trans Event
Trans Pride Brighton 2023, the largest Trans Pride event in Europe outside the US, rocked the city on July 15th. Since 2013, it’s been the biggest trans liberation protest in Europe, drawing crowds of over 10,000.
Storm Forces Last-Minute Venue Changes
But this year, wild weather threw a spanner in the works. Organisers had to ditch the planned park event at Brunswick Square and scatter into various central Brighton venues. The protest march route was also reshuffled to keep everyone safe—performers, vendors, volunteers, and attendees alike.
Grassroots Effort Faces Financial Struggles
Trans Pride Brighton is a volunteer-run, community-driven group championing trans, intersex, gender variant, and queer voices. Their mission? Celebrate trans lives, promote gender diversity, educate the public, and smash discrimination.
However, 2023 has hit them hard financially. A poor turnout risks wiping out crucial funding. Without big donations, they face closing the Trans Pride Centre on St James Street and cancelling future events.
