A brutal boyfriend who threw his girlfriend from a fourth-floor flat has been slammed with a five-year jail sentence. Jordan Herring, 22, from Solihull, was found guilty of unlawful wounding at Birmingham Crown Court after a horrifying attack in Chelmsley Wood.
Victim’s Harrowing Fall and Lifesaving Fight
The 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, plummeted 40ft from Herring’s mum’s flat in November 2022. Emergency crews airlifted her to hospital with a collapsed lung, shattered pelvis, spine, and ribs. Shocking CCTV caught the moment she fell, while Herring chillingly refused to help or call emergency services for over an hour. Despite Herring’s claim Bobbie jumped, police heard how he had threatened to “throw you out” during a violent interrogation over Snapchat messages. The teen was already battered with two black eyes and neck marks when taken to the tower block to evade her worried family.
No Remorse as Judge Calls Him “Dangerous Offender”
Herring showed zero remorse, even laughing as he was sentenced. The court also found him guilty of coercive and controlling behaviour, revealing a terrifying campaign of abuse leading up to the fall.
“What Herring did to me has affected me in many ways,” Bobbie said tearfully. “I am extremely lucky to be alive. He made me feel worthless and had total control of my life. I still live in constant pain and fear.”
Judge Simon Drew KC labelled Herring a “dangerous offender” and extended his licence period by a year. Herring was cleared of attempted murder but his violent actions have left a lasting scar on Bobbie.
Justice Delayed, But Not Denied
Bobbie endured a long wait of over three years for justice, with Herring’s trial only concluding this January. She spoke out about the emotional toll:
“I was confused waking up in hospital, knowing I didn’t jump but he lied to police saying I tried to kill myself. His family called me a liar, making this nightmare worse.” “I’ve struggled to sleep due to injuries and even now I don’t think I’ll ever trust a man again—but I hope I will someday.”
Herring was arrested at the scene and remains behind bars. His mother finally called 999 after an hour of delay, fearing her son might kill Bobbie with a knife. This grim saga shines a spotlight on chilling domestic abuse and its devastating aftermath. Bobbie’s courage in speaking out is a stark warning and a call for tougher action on coercive partners.
