Mick Lynch Slams Government Over Rail Strikes Snub

RMT union boss Mick Lynch is fuming at the government’s silence since January, despite fresh strikes set to hit rail passengers in July. The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has announced walkouts on July 20, 22, and 29 amid a long-running battle over pay, jobs, and working conditions.

July Strikes to Hit Stations and Trains

The strikes will target station staff, train managers, and catering teams, sparking warnings for travellers to check journeys and brace for chaos. Authorities have urged passengers to prepare for possible disruptions across the network.

Lynch: “No Talks, Just Empty Promises”

On Sky’s Sophy Ridge On Sunday, Lynch blasted the government for ghosting the union. “We’re ready to negotiate but haven’t heard from a single minister since January,” he said. He also revealed that rail employers have pulled out of talks too.

Lynch accused ministers of favouring other unions with better deals — slamming the “unfair” treatment of RMT members who face job cuts and tough conditions. “The strikes will go on until we get a fair deal,” he declared.

Shadow Minister Blasts Govt’s Mishandling

Shadow Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds condemned the government’s approach, saying their initial response was “misguided” and disrespectful to public sector workers. He claimed the government’s stance worsened the strike situation.

Passengers on Alert Amid Ongoing Dispute

With talks at a standstill, the looming strikes threaten travel chaos. Passengers should stay updated and consider alternative routes to avoid disruption on strike days.
