Swindon Hospital Scare as Police Officer Shows Suspected Nerve Agent Symptoms

A police officer turned up at Great Western Hospital in Swindon tonight with what looked like nerve agent symptoms. The man, said to be from north Wiltshire, sought medical advice before being rushed to Salisbury District Hospital for specialist tests. Thankfully, police have now given him the all clear.

Emergency Department Shut Down for Hours

The A&E department at Great Western Hospital was shut for more than five hours while staff cleaned the area following Public Health England’s safety rules. It finally reopened at 10.30pm. During the closure, several patients were turned away and told to head to other local hospitals.

No Wider Danger to Public, Say Officials

A Salisbury District Hospital spokesperson said:

“A Police Officer attended Great Western Hospital this evening for medical advice in connection with the ongoing incident in Amesbury. There is nothing to suggest any wider risk to anyone at the hospital.”

They added the officer was transferred to Salisbury for specialist testing, and stressed that since the incident began, no member of the public attending the hospital needed treatment. Public Health England continues to assure the public that the overall risk remains low.
