The A259 at Newhaven swing bridge has reopened following a road traffic collision earlier today. Emergency crews worked swiftly to clear the scene after the crash shut the route for hours.
Recovery Trucks Arrive to Clear the Wreckage
At around 3:50pm, the A259 was closed due to the crash. Two recovery trucks arrived by 5:25pm to begin clearing the damage and re-opening the road. Sussex Traffic advised at 6:08pm that recovery work was complete and the road reopened to traffic.
Bus Services Diverted Amid Chaos
Brighton and Hove buses had to divert several services during the closure:
- Routes BH12A and BH12X were rerouted from Rottingdean via Falmer Road, A27, and A26.
- BH12A resumed normal service at Newhaven Retail Park, BH12X at Denton Corner.
- BH12 operated from Brighton to Newhaven, Lower Place only.
These diversions affected travel in both directions, causing delays for commuters.
