Gatwick Airport Lockdown After Suspicious Suitcase Incident
Chaos erupted at Gatwick Airport tonight after a driver sped the wrong way on the perimeter road. The man then abandoned his vehicle, leaving behind two suitcases with orange wires hanging out, before dashing into the terminal.
Bomb Squad Called In, Suspect Arrested
Sussex Police swiftly cordoned off the area and called in bomb disposal experts to examine the suspicious bags. Officers detained the man at the scene and launched a full investigation.
Meanwhile, traffic at the drop-off point was disrupted as police instructed drivers to reverse and leave via the car park exit.
Police Confirm No Terror Link
“A police cordon that had been in place while officers dealt with an incident at Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal has now been lifted. A man has been detained in connection with the incident, which is not being investigated as a terror-related incident,” Sussex Police said.
“We thank the public for their patience during this disruption.”
The situation has now been resolved, but Gatwick remains on high alert following the nerve-wracking drama.
