10-Year Prison Sentence After Crawley Man Inflicts Hours of Terror

Younes Benmohammed has been sentenced to a decade in prison for a severe assault that lasted seven hours, resulting in grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. This incident took place in Crawley and was adjudicated following a trial at Lewes Crown Court.

The assault occurred on March 6, 2020, after Benmohammed had spent the evening socializing with friends, drinking, and playing poker at a location in Lewes Close. As the night concluded and Benmohammed found himself alone with his 36-year-old victim, he initiated a verbal assault that escalated into prolonged physical violence.

During this period, Benmohammed, 45, residing at Hawkhurst Walk in Crawley, intensified the attack by using a knife to inflict injuries on the victim’s hand and body. Additionally, he attempted to extort thousands of pounds from the victim in exchange for his release.

The victim was eventually freed and promptly received medical attention at the East Surrey Hospital. Following his arrest, Benmohammed faced charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. His trial culminated on December 18 with a conviction, leading to his 10-year imprisonment sentence.

Investigating Officer Ellie Mannan said: “This was an extremely challenging case which has lasted for over three years.

“It was a traumatising incident for the victim and no one should have to suffer this sort of abuse.

“It ended up being a fantastic result and the team has made sure Benmohammed is off the streets for a long time.”
