Activists Storm Lloyds Bank Over Cuba Account Closures
Yesterday afternoon (17th December), Brighton’s branch of the Revolutionary Communist Group staged a picket outside Lloyds Bank on North Road. Their target? Lloyds shutting down accounts linked to “1c4cuba”, a campaign backed by solidarity groups across Britain and Europe.
Fighting US Sanctions Through UK Banks
The closed accounts were used to challenge British and European banks aiding the US blockade on Cuba. The campaign aims to make America’s harsh sanctions on Cuba unenforceable on UK soil.
Demanding Lloyds End Humanitarian Blockades
The activists are calling on Lloyds to:
- Stop shutting down accounts used for humanitarian aid to Cuba
- Halt the blocking of transactions related to the Cuba solidarity campaign
Posting on social media, the group vowed: “Our members will continue to call out any British banks that undertake illegal actions that enable the US stranglehold on Cuba to continue. Members from across the country have picketed branches and HQs of Lloyds, Metro Bank and RBS.”
