Shock and sorrow as Sheffield United agrees to probe into Maddy Cusack’s tragic death
Blades back family’s call for full external inquiry
Sheffield United Football Club has reportedly agreed to a full external investigation into the tragic death of Maddy Cusack, the club’s 27-year-old star midfielder. Maddy, the first Blades player to hit 100 appearances, was found dead at her Derbyshire home in September. Her sudden passing has left the football community stunned and her family desperate for answers.
The Maddy Cusack Foundation revealed on social media that the family’s request for a thorough inquiry has been accepted by the club. Concerns have been raised about events leading up to Maddy’s death which the family believes played a critical role.
Family opens up about Maddy’s shattered spirit
The family described how Maddy’s mental and emotional wellbeing took a nosedive from February onwards. They stressed she had no known long-term mental health problems – once a carefree spirit with a bright future. “Her spirit was broken,” the statement said, as the family pledged to uncover the factors behind this sudden change.
Inquest adjourned, club stays tight-lipped
An official inquest into Maddy’s death kicked off last month but was quickly adjourned. Medical causes remain undetermined. Sheffield United has declined to comment further at this stage, keeping the details under wraps.
Maddy’s legacy lives on through new foundation
Aside from starring on the pitch, Maddy also worked as a marketing executive for the club since joining in 2019. Fans and fellow players have been pouring out support both in person and online following her death.
In a heartfelt tribute, the family launched the Maddy Cusack Foundation to inspire young girls to take up football. Her brother Richard said this was the family’s way of healing and honouring Maddy’s legacy, calling it the “best way” to keep her spirit alive.
