A major organised crime gang responsible for distributing crack cocaine and heroin across the capital has been dismantled, with its ringleader, Mohammed Abdul Bakye, sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The City of London Police’s Serious Organised Crime Team (SOCT) uncovered more than £45,000 worth of Class A drugs, along with a shotgun, ammunition, and a firearm silencer, during their investigation.
Ringleader Exploited Vulnerable People
Mohammed Abdul Bakye, of Alfred Court, Bombay Street, Bermondsey, was identified as the gang leader, orchestrating a sophisticated operation between May 2022 and August 2023.
- Bakye used children and vulnerable people to distribute crack cocaine and heroin on the streets.
- He was convicted of conspiracy to supply drugs and possession of a prohibited firearm without a license.
- In addition to his prison sentence, Bakye was handed a Serious Crime Prevention Order, imposing restrictions on him after his release.
Key Police Findings
A warrant executed on August 6, 2023, led officers to a stash house where they discovered:
- A locked digital safe containing pre-packaged crack cocaine, heroin, and MDMA valued at £36,355.
- A shotgun, ammunition, and a silencer for another firearm.
Another warrant in Dagenham resulted in Bakye’s arrest, during which officers seized two mobile phones linked to the gang’s drug operation.

Detective’s Statement
Detective Constable Jared Fortune, who led the investigation, said:
“This was a lengthy investigation that has led to this organised crime group being dismantled. In doing so, we have stopped tens of thousands of pounds worth of Class A drugs hitting the streets of London.
“Mohammed Abdul Bakye was the head of this violent and exploitative gang which used children and vulnerable people to deal the most destructive of substances, crack and heroin, in the London area.
“I hope the sentences imposed send a clear message to those involved in drug supply – the City of London Police’s Serious Organised Crime Team will work tirelessly in pursuing and disrupting criminal activity. We are determined to continue to bring criminals to justice.”
Impact of the Investigation
This case represents one of the largest crack cocaine and heroin networks disrupted in the City of London since the SOCT was established in 2022. The operation not only removed harmful drugs from the streets but also targeted the violence and exploitation that accompanied the gang’s activities.
More updates are expected as the remaining gang members face sentencing.
