Hampshire Police Rally for LGB&T Crime Victims at Pride Weekend

Hampshire Constabulary is calling on the public to help boost understanding of crimes impacting LGB&T communities. Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers (LAGLOs) will be at Hampshire Pride in Winchester this Saturday, February 27, during LGB&T History Month.

Get Real About Hate Crime

Sergeant Kirsten Troman from Hampshire’s LGB&T Resource Group stresses the importance of reporting. “If you’ve suffered crime because of your sexual orientation or gender identity, you can speak to any officer or member of police staff,” she says.

Hampshire’s LAGLOs bring specialist training and experience to deal with these sensitive cases. One major hurdle? Under-reporting of homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic hate crimes.

“We need increased awareness and better understanding between police and the public,” adds Sgt Troman. “That way, victims get proper support and offenders face justice.”

Take Part in Hampshire’s Biggest Hate Crime Survey

The force is running its largest-ever survey on hate crime, domestic violence, and sexual assault against LGB&T communities. Participation will shape better policing based on respect, integrity, and fairness.

Spotted at Pride: The LAGLO Police Ford Focus

Look out for the police Ford Focus painted with LAGLO artwork at events. Funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), the vehicle helps raise awareness about reporting hate crimes and issues around LGB&T communities.

What Counts as Homophobic, Biphobic or Transphobic Crime?

  • Any crime or incident perceived by the victim or others as motivated by homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia.
  • Can include abusive or threatening language in public places, sports grounds, workplaces, or private settings.
  • You don’t have to identify as LGB&T to be a victim—it’s about the perception behind the offence.

Speak Up in Confidence

You can report hate crimes without revealing your sexual orientation or gender identity. Police guarantee confidentiality and respect requests for anonymity.
