Met Officer Cleared of Sexual Assault After Shocking DNA Evidence
PC Fabian Aguilar-Delgado, 40, faced serious sexual assault allegations after a woman claimed he followed her upstairs at her home and groped her. But he vehemently denied the accusation.
DNA on Woman’s Chest: Handshake or Assault?
Aguilar-Delgado told the court his DNA ended up on the woman’s chest purely by accident. He said she either grabbed his hand in a firm handshake or rubbed her breast immediately after shaking hands to thank him and a colleague. He also suggested some of his saliva could have landed on her when he spoke loudly to be heard over the noise.
“She took my hand in hers, but it wasn’t a normal handshake,” Aguilar-Delgado said. “I was speaking loudly to make sure she understood, and some spit might have landed on her.”
Woman’s Mixed Signals Throw Case into Chaos
After the encounter, the woman admitted she felt sexually attracted to Aguilar-Delgado. She even slipped him her phone number on a brown paper envelope. She insisted he groped her and suspected he wanted to see her again.
Aguilar-Delgado denied any intimacy, saying she was drunk at the time.
Jury Verdict: Not Guilty
The DNA evidence found on a swab from the woman’s right nipple matched Aguilar-Delgado. However, both prosecution and defence accepted this could have come from casual contact during the handshake or thanks.
Aguilar-Delgado, who moved to the UK from Spain in 2013 and joined the Met in 2019, was charged with one count of sexual assault by touching. After hearing all evidence, the jury found him not guilty.
