Two brothers have been slammed with hefty prison sentences totalling more than 34 years after being caught red-handed plotting to smuggle cocaine into the UK.

Three-Year Met Police Sting Cracks Huge Drug Ring

Specialist officers at the Metropolitan Police spent three painstaking years busting a major drug trafficking operation. Using a mix of CCTV footage and hacked encrypted messaging apps favoured by criminals, detectives dismantled the gang’s entire network.

The probe exposed a ruthless team behind 19 shipments of cocaine between May and August 2020, with the haul worth a staggering £8.8 million.

Lynn Brothers Caught and Sentenced

  • Jonathan Lynn, 41, from Epsom, was handed 18 years and 8 months.
  • Nicholas Lynn, 35, from Swanley, got 15 years and 3 months.

Evidence was airtight. CCTV at Thurrock services revealed the hotspot where huge drug handoffs took place before heading to London. Meanwhile, seized Encrochat messages confirmed the brothers organised coke shipments from Lithuania hidden in HGV lorries.

“This investigation highlights the relentless dedication of our detectives to dismantling dangerous criminal networks threatening London communities,” said Detective Inspector Lydia Stephens from the Met’s Specialist Crime South Unit.

Hunt Ends in Spain and Kent Arrests

Jonathan Lynn was finally nabbed in Fuengirola, Spain, with European help after a 2022 arrest warrant. Nicholas was previously caught in Kent in February 2021.

Detective Constable Leon Ure praised the teamwork across units that brought down the operation. The sentences send a strong message: the Met will stop at nothing to protect London from organised crime and drug trafficking.
