Australian racer Joey Mawson, known for his close friendship with Mick Schumacher, has been charged in a disturbing rape case. The victim is one of Michael Schumacher’s nurses, who cared for the F1 legend after his 2013 skiing accident left him with a severe head injury.
According to prosecutors, Mawson assaulted the nurse in 2019 while she was unconscious in a staff-only bedroom at the Schumacher family home. The nurse had been drinking vodka cocktails, felt unwell, and was carried to bed still clothed. Mawson, lodging nearby, is accused of entering her room twice to attack her.
Colleagues reportedly heard or saw nothing, but the nurse found “material evidence” the next day. She only came forward two years later, fearing she might lose her job.
Accused Driver Flees Switzerland As Trial Delayed
Mawson, 29, fled Switzerland for Australia and hasn’t been heard from for months. He skipped the opening day of his trial, which was immediately postponed. Prosecutor Xavier Christe confirmed Mawson’s no-show.
The victim’s lawyer insists the evidence against Mawson is “overwhelming,” despite his absence. Three Swiss judges adjourned the case; a new trial date is pending. With an extradition treaty in place between Switzerland and Australia, Mawson could be forced back to face justice.
